Warmish temperatures are forecast for the remainder of 2015 here in the heartland. Here’s Louis’ wish for us. At least his voice can give us shivers.

Despite this series of festive holiday songs, I have not yet entered the Christmas spirit zone. Dare I say . . . maybe snow would help?

Let’s not forget that in addition to having an exquisite gravelly voice, Louis Armstrong was also a virtuoso on the trumpet and cornet, ranging from boisterous – as in ‘Zat You, Santa Claus – to subtle, as in his accompaniment for this Mel Tormé classic. End run-on sentence, begin wondering how a duet of Satchmo and The Velvet Fog would sound.

In contrast to yesterday’s high energy offering, here is a sweet Christmas lullaby for your enjoyment.

If anyone feels a bit grumpy this morning or needs a smidge of Monday motivation, have I got the song for you. I picked this particular video for its use of wonderfully coordinated vintage Disney animation clips. I do believe I could have this looping all December and never tire of it. Enjoy.

My Sunday practice is to post sacred carols. It surprised me to learn that Louis Armstrong did not record any. Ella Fitzgerald did, though, and today’s selection brings our road trip to a close, appropriately enough in the same place as Mary and Joseph’s.

Christmas in the Big Apple sounds like fun! Especially if Louis is there and says “Hi-de-ho.”
