Police and Fire Departments
Grateful for our fire department (and the new station that serves our house) and police department, with special thanks for sponsoring Joseph’s explorer post. Thanks also to all of our fellow taxpayers for helping to foot the bill.
Happy Veteran’s Day
As a rule of thumb I try not to use the same thankfulness posts from year to year, but Veteran’s Day is an exception. Thank you to all U.S. military personnel, past, present and future.
Warmth
I am thankful for today’s warm weather. Really wish it could stick around for a little longer though.
Efforts Toward Peace
Today’s GoogleDoodle video about the falling of the Berlin Wall made me aware of gratitude for efforts toward peace. One site that I was sorry not to see in the overview of wall memorials is Fulton, Missouri.
Winston Churchill made his famous “Iron Curtain” speech at Westminster College. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, Churchill’s granddaughter Edwina Sandys designed a sculpture titled “Breakthrough” using eight sections of the wall gifted to Westminster by German authorities.
The kids and I used to have a summer tradition of Friday Field Trips. I took this photo during a visit to the National Churchill Memorial on 08/08/08 on our way to pick up Phil from a business trip.

Thankfulness 2014
Oops. November sneaked up on me and I forgot to start my thankfulness posts. Before I get any further behind, I am going to play catch-up:
1 – I am thankful that Laura was able to come home from college for the weekend.
2 – Speaking of college, I am grateful for the generous scholarship program at Truman both on Laura’s behalf and back in the day for Hanna.
3 – I am thankful for health, wealth and wisdom even thought I am not an early to bed and early to rise kind of gal.
4 – I am thankful to live in a constitutional republic where I am allowed the privilege and responsibility to vote. And, although not all of the elections went my way, I am grateful to those willing to serve in public office.
5 – I am thankful for the opportunities I have had to travel this year, both to Costa Rica with Laura and to visit Hanna in Chicago.
6 – I am thankful for forgiveness, from God and from my family and friends.
